Hi my name is Danielle, I am 15 years old and I am currently in Grade 10. When I was in elementary school I was bullied but didn't understand what anxiety and depression was like, until February 4th 2015. I was in my third period class when the Vice Principal came in to tell us that my close friend had commit suicide. After I heard this awful news my world changed in a big way. I never really understood what it meant to have a mental illness but now I do. When people think of someone with a mental illness they think that they have a contagious disease, or that they're weird, or even they're overreacting but that's not the reality! If I was to describe what having a mental illness is like, it's a silent boxing match that is a constant struggle between winning & losing the battle. You have good days & bad days because having anxiety makes each day a challenge. Each day is a new challenge to complete tasks that can be very daunting. I have been struggling for a year & it hasn't been easy, but it has made me a stronger person.
